Five things to be happy about {five things friday link-up #2}

Rain, rain and more rain. We’ve traded afternoon walks for rounds of Mario Kart and backyard play for mud puddles. We had a rained out street parade and I’m currently quilting the same mini quilt for the third time now (unrelated to rain, but come on!)… it’s been a trying week, to say the least and I don’t know about you, but I’m in desperate need of a little Five Things Friday!

Here are this week’s five things at random from Barbara Ann Kipfer’s book, 14,000 Things to be Happy About, plus a five-photo-roundup of things that made me smile this week. Read on for the link-up info.

Five things to be happy about:

  • armfuls of Spring flowers
  • having a really good photograph taken
  • asking a child to sing you a song
  • flat, smooth, cool sand, just out of reach of the incoming tide
  • seeing a new path in the woods

Five smiles photo-roundup:

  1. OK! Its late in the day, but its never too late to share happiness! Right? My Five Things To Be Happy About post is at https://sewmuchforfreetime.blogspot.com/2016/06/five-things-to-be-happy-about-2.html.

    Someday I’ll learn how to make a hyperlink in a comment. That would make me happy!

    Your quilt with the lace. Oh my! So lovely. Is that the one that’s giving you quilting fits? Patience and perseverance. That’s all I can offer. I have some lace from each of my grandmothers, and, I think, enough floral hankies and tea towels to make a mini quilt. I was thinking of putting them in a shadowbox, but now…inspiration!

    Have a wonderful weekend, and again, thanks for encouraging all of us to seek out and share the happiness in our lives. That’s so important, especially when the world seems to be going crazy around us!

    1. Never too late! Yes, this is the quilt that’s been fighting me. I think I’ll set it aside for a day or two while I still like it. 😄 I’ve been trying to think of ways to use the lace. Let me know if you get any good ideas – the wheels are turning! Thank you so much for the kind words, Tami. Heading over to your blog now! Happy Friday!

  2. The lace in the picture of your quilt…divine! I read The Glass Castle a few years ago…wow! You need to read the other books she has written. I am always amazed at what children can survive…some are broken, but some move forward. I am a CASA (court appointed special advocate) for children that have been removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect. Most of them are quite resilient, but have seen and heard to much. I LOVE your five Fridays…and plan to join in soon!

    1. Oh, this book is fantastic! I’m adding her others to my Summer reading list for sure. I used to work for a company in California that was a CASA corporate sponsor. We would hold fundraisers and do volunteer work as well. Such a wonderful organization to be a part of! Thank you so much for the kind words, Sharon! I can’t wait for you to join in on Fridays – I look forward to reading your future happy things! 😊
